US drama Masters of Sex is back for its third season on SBS in early August.

Cast members returning include Caitlin FitzGerald (Libby Masters), Annaleigh Ashford (Betty Dimello), Beau Bridges (Barton Scully), Allison Janney (Margaret Scully) and Teddy Sears (Dr Austin Lang).

The Good Wife‘s Josh Charles will also join the series in a recurring guest role as Daniel Logan, a self-made businessman working in the scent industry. In an attempt to bottle the smell of sex and market an aphrodisiac to the general public, Dan seeks out Masters and Johnson’s expertise on desire. A charismatic salesman, Dan’s involvement with Masters and Johnson becomes complicated.

The year is 1966. Thrust into the spotlight by the publication of their controversial study, Dr. William Masters (Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan) find themselves the unlikely leaders of the Sexual Revolution. But as newfound fame and pressures mount, their relationship becomes twisted and tangled, putting the couple in a position that even they might not be able to handle.

Season three jumps forward four years from where season two left off, and it’s where we find the famed duo Masters and Johnson dealing with the glare of the national spotlight as their sex study is finally unveiled. It’s the start of the Sexual Revolution — and Masters and Johnson’s work will have a profound impact on contemporary relationships, especially their own evolving three-way “marriage” with Masters’ wife Libby (Caitlin FitzGerald).

An exclusive preview of the first episode will be available on SBS ON DEMAND from July 30, with the series premiering on SBS, Thursday, 6 August at 9.30pm.
