Fairfax Media has today published its annual list of “TV’s most powerful and influential.”
It’s always rather perilous to run a list that effectively snubs many in the industry, but there are 30 names who, according to the article, are Television’s Power Brokers, Innovators and Influencers.
Amongst the names are:
Waleed Aly, The Project
Matt Campbell, Nick Murray and Michael Cordell, Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder
John Edwards, executive producer, Endemol Australia
Mark and Carl Fennessy, co-chief executives Endemol Shine Group (pictured)
Sarah Ferguson, ABC journalist
Michael Healy, director of television, Nine Network
Ian Hogg and Jo Porter, FremantleMedia
Rick Kalowski, head of comedy, ABC TV
Rick Maier, head of drama, TEN Network
Julia Morris, actor/presenter
Brian Walsh, director of television, Foxtel
There is also opinion on everything from CEOs, to SVOD bosses, financiers, agents and writers.
Who else should be on the list?

Interesting that a few names from Seven have dropped off the list… just sayin’
What about Bebo, Bobo, and Bubo, the monkeys that throw the darts at the schedule for the FTA commercial networks? They’ve certainly had a powerful influence on me not watching their networks any more.
Bubo is no longer with us; he died from a mysterious rat-borne disease and not even Dr. Chris or the Village Vets were able to save him.
Bebo and Bobo now work for 2 different networks; they’re currently in court arguing over who originated the concept of “monkey see, monkey do”…
Did Bubo die of the bubonic plague? Maybe it was his destiny 😉
Yes, while there’s lots of heavy hitters in that list, come of the front of camera names seem randomly cherry picked. I would have thought actors like Rebecca Gibney and Asher Keddie are major drivers for funding of projects and therefore are power players, as well as audience favourites. I am not a fan of Andrew Bolt, but surely he drives the political narrative as much as Sarah or Leigh.
If this was a list of ‘Respected and admired by their industry peers’ it would be very different!
I’d be taking the talentless Julia Morris off the list, replacing her with Tony Jones. He has way more power and influence.
