Portlandia to end in 2018

Fred Armisen & Carrie Brownstein flag season 8 as the last season of their sketch show -but plenty more before then.

Thankfully it’s still a long way off, but Portlandia stars Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein have announced their sketch series will end after its eighth season, which will presumably air some time in 2018.

While the show only been renewed until 2017, Independent Film Channel president Jen Caserta has previously said, “I will do this show until there’s no more show to do.”

Speaking to press during filming for the show’s sixth season, Armisen and Brownstein have hinted that they’ll continue the structural experiments that lead to episodes like the recent “The Story Of Toni And Candace,” going so far as to suggest that the show’s final season might take the form of a 10-part miniseries.

Portlandia airs in Australia on ABC2.

  1. By far the best comedy to come out of the states in years. Superbly written, acted and directed! Cant wait for more of it. Everyone I’ve shown this series thinks it’s terrible, guess they’re not smart enough to understand it!

  2. Its a hidden gem that not many people know about, probably the strongest, subversive, most innovative, well written and difficult to categorize “sketch show” I have seen in a long time. Its brilliant.
