“Netflix and chill?”

When inviting someone around for movies, is not always inviting someone around for movies...

2015-10-22_1507You learn something every day…

Apparently inviting someone over with the phrase “Netflix and chill?” does not actually mean sitting down to watch a movie together.

It’s a euphemism for having sex.

As the Urban Dictionary notes:

“I went round Carter’s house for Netflix and chill last night”
“What did you watch?”
“We didn’t watch anything..”

or even

“Hey, Netflix and chill?”
“Hell yeah! thank god for Netflix.”
“I’ll get the condoms.”

Styleite writer Eliza Dillard put the theory to the test by sending out “Netflix and chill?” requests to 18 guys on Tinder just to see what would happen.

“I’ll admit I felt absolutely ridiculous, like an Amy Poehler trying to fit in with The Plastics level of desperation to be relevant in Tinder culture,” she writes.

“The results I got from the guys who responded were pretty funny and can be filed into two categories: ‘When?’ and ‘Lol.’

Of course, there’s also the theory they are randy dudes.

Just that. That’s it.

  1. “iView and a cup of tea?” gets me between the sheets with a lady in no time. Admittedly I’m married and it’s always the same lady. And we usually watch iView and drink tea.

  2. This has been a thing for a while, it’s nothing new. Inviting someone over to watch a movie was kind of the same thing before Netflix arrived. Google image search “Netflix and Chill,” there are a few memes that explain it pretty well lol.

  3. Come on David, having we got you reading The Guardian yet?
