Ricky Gervais to return as Golden Globes host

Proving yet again he can be shamelessly bought at any price, Ricky Gervais is back for the fourth time.

Just brilliant….. Ricky Gervais will host the Golden Globe Awards for the fourth time in January.

It comes despite initial division on his 2010 hosting where his remarks, including several aimed at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, were criticised by then-HFPA President Philip Berk saying he had “definitely crossed the line.”

But Gervais, who was invited to return in 2011 and 2012, has also managed to attract plenty of chatter for the awards.

Current Hollywood Foreign Press Association, President Lorenzo Soria said, “Ricky Gervais left us with a lasting impression, and we are thrilled to have him back in our show as we honor the best in film and television. His off-the-cuff wit and quirky charm will surely have the room and audiences around the world at the edge of their seats.”

Gervais said via Twitter, “I’m making a list. I’m checking it twice. Gonna find out who’s naughty and nice.

“Now I want Donald Trump to stop saying things until the day before The Golden Globes. It’s a good job I’m drunk. Otherwise the thought of hosting The Golden Globes again would seem like a real pain in the arse.”

The 73rd Golden Globes will be held January 10 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

  1. You beat me to it, Secret Squirrel, but i could live with Amy and Tina hosting every awards show til the end of time! The novelty wore off with Ricky, and from memory, the host of the Globes only gets periodic interludes. A big welcome monologue but sporadic and in his case fewer opportunities to make funny. There are so many categories to cover, it’s more about quick and sharp intros. But Ricky does bring quite a frisson to the event.

  2. That is indeed excellent news altho’ Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were great too. Now that they’ve had 3 consecutive turns each, perhaps they could just alternate betw Gervais and Fey + Poehler each year?
