Report: Hugh Marks front-runner to replace David Gyngell

Former CEO of Southern Star is the likely candidate to succeed David Gyngell at Channel Nine.

Media reports today speculate that Hugh Marks, former CEO of Southern Star, is the likely candidate to succeed David Gyngell at Channel Nine.

Gyngell is rumoured to be giving 12 months notice and not renewing as Nine Entertainment CEO, though this has not been confirmed. He is expected to remain on the Nine board.

Hugh Marks is already a Nine director and managing director of media strategy and investment business Media Venture Partners. He also owns talent management agency RGM Artists, with Austereo’s Grant Blackley. He is understood to have the backing of Gyngell for the position.

Other names rumoured include chief operating officer and chief financial officer Simon Kelly, e Prime Media Group chief executive Ian Audsley and Telstra’s former retail boss Gordon Ballantyne.

Nine’s AGM takes place on November 17.
