Poor old MTV Australia has had to apologise for an attempt at tweet humour during the Golden Globes on Monday.
During a presentation by Eva Longoria and America Ferrera it disturbingly tweeted “Where are the English subtitles? We have no idea what @AmericaFerrera and @EvaLongoria are saying.”
Both actresses had jokingly referred that they were not Selma Hayek, Gina Rodriguez nor Rosario Dawson.
But MTV copped some abuse for their tweet, some even suggesting it was racist. It quickly deleted the tweet and responded.
Our Tweet was in reference to @EvaLongoria & @AmericaFerrera’s #GoldenGlobes joke. We sincerely apologise for causing offence.

We get it was a bad call. We’ll leave the humour to @rickygervais

It wasn’t an hilarious joke, but it wasn’t actually racist- MTV were playing along with the spirit of what those presenters were joking about, i.e., ‘all us latino actors seem the same to you’. In other words, they were pretending to sound ignorant/racist. MTV should not have apologised.
Not bad at all. Was funny, and not even racist
Hells bells, we’ve got to the stage where a joke or quip of any description is forbidden! Didn’t appeal to your sense of humour? Then ignore it!
Think they should stick to playing crappy shows and music and leave the comedy to the professionals.
