Script contest looking for international drama

Trade publication C21 has announced its 2016 Drama Series Script Competition, designed to find the next big thing in international drama.

Produced in association with eOne Entertainment, it is seeking an outstanding pilot for a one-hour drama series from a fresh writer (or writers), and is open to global entrants.

Six finalists will be partnered with a mentor to polish their script and pitch to win at C21’s International Drama Summit in London later this year.

The winner will be announced at the event following the pitches and receive $10k development funding, time in a writers room on a current series, and assistance in taking their drama project to series.

C21 editor-in-chief and MD David Jenkinson said: “Last year’s competition was a remarkable success, with more than 220 scripts submitted. Two shows are currently in development from that initiative. This year we have added a mentor stage, which will see a leading drama executive work with each of six finalists to get them ready to pitch their script at the Drama Summit. New talent is around every corner, and the Script Competition is a great way of connecting new writers with the global drama business.”

Eligibility terms include:
• Aspiring writers who are not yet earning a living writing for television (screenwriters and playwrights are eligible).
• Writers who have not yet had a TV script commissioned.
• Anyone with a great series idea and a burning desire and talent for writing.

• Scripts must be no older than 2 years max.
• Script must be available and not under any option
• Script must be no longer than 60 pages

• The Winner shall receive a $10,000 commission from eOne as set out below.
• The prize means a $10,000 commission to the International Winner for the Winner’s Script to be bought by and developed by eOne subject to the Terms and Conditions.
