Stan announces new 4K streaming plan

A new $15 4K plan brings Ultra High Definition to select Samsung & LG TVs, and PlayStation4 Pro.

Stan has announced a new Premium Plan, for viewers with 4K sets on 2015, 2016 & 2017 model Samsung and LG TVs, as well as PlayStation4 Pro.

It will enable viewing of featured titles in Ultra High Definition (4K Ultra HD) including the current season of Better Call Saul, plus Power, The Girlfriend Experience, Preacher, Transparent, Mozart in the Jungle, every episode of Breaking Bad and Stan’s own Wolf Creek.

Stan will continue to add more TV shows and movies in 4K UHD, and make Premium available across further 4K sets and devices.

The new plan is available for $15 a month, $5 more than the standard $10 fee. It includes streaming across 4 screens at the same time and offline content on up to 5 devices. For a limited time, existing customers can upgrade to the new plan at no extra charge for a month, while new customers can trial for 30 days for free.

  1. It’s also a little annoying that you can’t sign up for the 4K plan if you have a subscription through iTunes (which I do).
You have to cancel your current plan and sign up directly with Stan and pay via credit card etc.
I purchased a large iTunes gift card at a discount to pay for my current subscription.

  2. Interesting that Stan have chosen to be selective in telling customers the limitations of devices for 4K. If I hadn’t seen the LG/Samsung restriction here I might have wasted a free month of 4K as I have a Sony tv.

  3. Stan is commercially limiting itself if LG and Samsung are the preferred brands. Other streaming devices can also provide Stan including Apple TV,.

    1. Stan is available on Apple TV. The reason it hasn’t been mentioned in relation to the new premium plan is because Apple TV don’t have 4K on any of their models. You can’t watch 4K at all on Apple TV even if you have a UHD/4K tv. It’s dissapointing that they didn’t include that with the 4th generation model but hopefully the next one.

      1. Apple is reportedly releasing it’s new Apple TV device with 4K later this year, so I suspect that in typical Apple style you will need to buy a full upgrade instead of receive a 4K firmware update for it’s 2016 model which would be the appropriate thing to do.
