SBS On Demand: Thicker Than Water

2014 Swedish noir drama is ready to be binged.

Swedish noir drama Thicker Than Water begins on Thursday on SBS On Demand.

The 2014 series stars Joel Spira (Easy Money, Angelby, Crimes Of Passion, Anno 1790) as one of three siblings summoned to run a guesthouse by their deceased mother.

All 10 episodes will be available.

Anna-Lisa (Stina Ekblad) runs a B&B with her son Oskar (Spira) on a beautiful island in the Swedish archipelago. Anna-Lisa summons her other estranged adult children, Jonna (Aliette Opheim) and Lasse (Bjorn Bengtsson) back to the island for a reunion – only to take her own life.

The siblings learn that their mother has put a strange clause in her will, stipulating that all three siblings must run the family B&B together for one year, or they won’t inherit a cent. The will is Anna-Lisa’s last effort to reunite her children, but it also presents them with their family’s unsolved past, and a very dark secret buried in a most unfortunate place.

        1. I wouldn’t be overly concerned. This is one of the second-tier Scandinavian dramas that SBS has been rolling out online because they’re not good enough for linear TV.

Also not every Scandi-drama is “noir”. This one is “beige”.

          1. i cant agree with that remark, shows like ‘Dict’ and ‘Follow the Money’ are well made productions, so I will be interested in ‘Thicker than Water’ as well.
P.S.’The Young Pope’ though not Scandinavian is worth a look too if just to see a wonderful sociopath Pope performed by Jude Law in this Holy See House of Cards. I look forward seeing season 2.
