Now that we have your attention….

SBS VICELAND will screen a documentary, Pornocracy, on how online sites have impacted the porn industry.

French feminist icon, filmmaker, and adult film director Ovidie investigates changes in the international adult film industry, and how the arrival of websites showing amateur and pirated clips has transformed the way porn is made and consumed.

In her investigation, she exposes how a group of programmers hijacked the adult industry to create a mysterious multinational corporation that virtually controls the entire adult industry worldwide.

  1. A textbook race to the bottom. The biggest factor in the decline of the Valley is amateurs (an amateur porn star is more watchable than a garage band or home movie) and more people competing for jobs in porn. Mindgeek has just done the same as Google (YouTube) and Facebook, but with porn instead of news, TV, films and music videos. That is buy up competitors to become a near monopoly, offer free content paying little (some of it pirated), harvesting click reveneu in the billions and funneling revenue through tax havens. Producers have to supply promotional material and buy ads on Mindgeek’s sites because it hard to attract eyeballs away from free naked people. They do take down pirated material, but porn producers have less resources than big media to find and get it removed. Mindgeek is not mysterious, it’s Canadian, and is a small producer in The Valley.
