All power to the SBS, football would not be making the strides it is in Australia without the broadcasting initiatives of the SBS, with great credit due to Les Murray and Johnny Warren. FTA TV need to rescue Rugby Union from itself especially with the ARU having nearly all of its broadcast eggs in the Foxtel basket, so for 2017 at least, rugby fans can follow the Wallaby revival in Europe on FTA, hopefully in full HD.
Foxtel would want exclusive rights to the games, for homes and pubs. The anti-syphoning list prevents that if an FTA broadcaster wants them.
Those early AM timeslots are enough to put any commercial network offside.
Cue Hugh Marks complaining about SBS outbidding him again despite having all that money he’s saved on not having to pay Lisa Wilkinson…
If SBS played the news 5 minutes early, I’m sure Hugh Marks would whinge about it.
