SBS nabs Wallabies Spring Tour

SBS to screen 3 live matches overnight in November.

SBS has nabbed the exclusive free-to-air rights to three upcoming rugby union test matches from the Wallabies 2018 Spring Tour.

From Sunday 11 November the Wallabies take on the national teams from Wales, Italy and England, screening Live in HD at SBS and SBS on Demand.

beIN Sports on Foxtel will have the Subscription TV rights.

In the final Test of the tour against England, the Wallabies will wear a special Indigenous jersey for just the second time (first worn in a match against New Zealand in Brisbane last year, when Australia won 23-18). This will be the first time the Wallabies put on the Indigenous jersey when representing Australia in a Test overseas.

  1. Rugby Union needs a saviour on FTA and not just to show a handful of Wallabies games, but kudos to the SBS anyway for showing some grit when it comes to providing some big game telecasts for those unable or unwilling to pay for their sporting coverage.

  2. Excellent – can’t wait. If SBS is as good with the rugby as it is with football (round-ball kind that is) the commentary should be sensible, informative, and non-hysterical (unlike most of the AFL/NRL talking heads).

    1. Senectus: SBS in the past when taking sport from overseas has always used the local commentators except for the World Cup (soccer) when they send a couple of their own for Socceroos games. I think like you that the overseas commentators are more measured and far less partisan than here.
