Australia slips in Eurovision odds

Jessica Mauboy slips to 10th place according to the bookies following rehearsals.

Australia may now be fighting for a Top 10 finish in the Eurovision Song Contest following first rehearsals in Lisbon.

According to the bookies, we have now pushed out to 10th favourite, due to mixed reaction to Jessica Mauboy’s rehearsal. Whilst commentary praises her skill as a performer, there was some criticism the staging was too minimalist and dull camerawork. Ok admittedly, we don’t have a piano on fire, thanks Ukraine.

Prior to rehearsals Australia was ranking around 5th.

An earlier report at Wiwibloggs noted, “The biggest casualty of Wednesday’s rehearsals appears to be Australia. Jessica Mauboy was riding high in the odds in our last update, but has now slipped to seventh. Skybet has widened her odds from 7/1 to 12/1. Better camerawork may reverse the downward trend.”

Israel remains the favourite followed by Norway (a return performance by former winner Alexander Rybak) and France.

  1. As much as Jess is lovely, the song is a bit basic and she isn’t the strongest performer. I love the song from France, and it is topical and emotional. And Cyprus shows how a pop star should be!
