Jessica Mauboy completes first Eurovision rehearsal

Jess takes to the stage alone in Lisbon, proving she needs no others to distract from her stage experience.

Jessica Mauboy has completed her first rehearsal on stage in Lisbon ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest next week.

Only a snippet is available through the official ESC channel but it indicates Mauboy takes to the stage alone, in a purple sequinned dress (I think!) with large neon lights at the rear and pyrotechnics.  Producers Blink TV are clearly focussing on Mauboy’s experience to light up the stage with her powerful vocals and charisma, dispensing with all other distractions.

As Wiwibloggs explains:

Let there be light! But make sure it pops with the purple hues of Jessica Mauboy’s Eurovision 2018 music video. The “We Got Love” singer stayed true to her existing colour scheme with a lovely performance that sees her standing centre stage with beams of light popping out diagonally behind her. At times the lights cut out and there’s a beautiful strobe behind her. She throws her head back and serves a Beyoncé-like hair whip. We love that silhouette!

Jessica wears a hip-hugging dress with what appears to be a Mermaid fin or angular train. It provides a nice structural element that comes into sharper focus as the camera pans around and above the Idol alum. Jessica flows like the River Murray, smoothly twisting that waist as she invites us along for the ride. Some of the hand choreography mimics the motion of a snake. The camera cuts made those moves look more awkward than beautiful, but surely tweaks and improved camera work will bring that to life.
