Report: Netflix in talks to revive Designated Survivor

Kiefer Sutherland-drama may yet have another life.

Axed-drama Designated Survivor may yet return with producers eOne reportedly in discussion with Netflix, but talks are said to be preliminary.

While the drama was produced for ABC, Netflix has SVOD rights outside the US and Canada (Hulu has US rights). The Kiefer Sutherland series has performed will in its delayed viewing if not necessarily in Overnight broadcasting.

Designated Survivor also went through four showrunners for its two seasons on the air, and had a deal a place with a fifth to run the show in Season 3. Reports suggest the new executive producer will likely continue if the series gets a third season elsewhere.

  1. Yes, yes, yes ….

While DS does not reach the same level of excellence as The West Wing, IMHO, DS is 1 of the better US shows broadcast over the last 2 years.

TBH, I find the US networks make some weird decisions when it comes to renewals/cancellations. For example, iZombie, The Flash and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. all get renewed, whilst Dark Matter, Designated Survivor & The Expanse get cancelled … lets hope Netflix pick up The Expanse as well since I think they broadcast/streaming rights outside of North America.
