Returning: Australian Survivor

Champions vs Contenders seasons begins in early August on TEN.

TEN has confirmed Australian Survivor: Champions Versus Contenders, filmed in Fiji, begins in early August.

Taking place for the first time on the beautiful tropical location of Savusavu, this season of Australian Survivor sees 12 every day Australians take on 12 giants of Australian society.

In order to take out the ultimate prize of $500,000, each castaway will have to survive epic challenges and tropical elements for 50 days, running on little sleep, little food and possessing only the clothes on their back.

From an Astrophysicist to a Take Away Delivery Rider, an Olympic Medallist to a Traffic Police Officer, this season of competitors come from all walks of life, but only one will be able to claim the title of Sole Survivor.

7.30pm on Wednesday 1 August on TEN.

  1. I get the sourness towards a celebrity slant but this concept defies the mould that we’ve come to know from ‘Celebrity *Insert Franchise Title*’ TV shows. I’m not a sports fan in the slightest so barely know any of these Survivors but have respect for the fact that they are at the peak of their abilities and thus will provide a captivating televisual challenge never before seen, even in the regular US Survivor. I applaud the concept and can’t wait to get stuck in!

  2. I am glad that the show is back and Survivor is one of the few things that obeys the “Pizza Rule” (: Any Pizza/Survivor is better than no Pizza/Survivor), but after last year’s amaxing season, it is disappointing that they have this silly “Champions vs Contenders” theme with a hand full of celebrities and notable personalities. I hope that this is a one-off thing and that we get a more normal cast next year (especially as a Survivor fan without an Olympic Medel who is eager to get to the island. )

Honestly, if you like things that are entertaining, go on tenplay right now and watch season 2 Aus Survivor.

  3. I’m glad this is getting another series at all, but it’s disappointing that the show can’t stand on its own in the ratings/viewing figures without needing to resort to a weird hybrid celebrity version.

    1. Agree!
Great to see it back again but would much rather that it was just all “ordinary” contestants, with no celebs and the like thrown in.

  4. Ooooooooh, so excited for Aussie Survivor & a different location too. I’ve been to Savu Savu but it was a long time ago so would probably be very different now. So I guess we won’t have the same final challenge this time since it’s at a different place.

      1. How can you agree once a week is enough but then complain it is drawn out

Personally I think 2-3 times a week is fine – keeps the airings at around the same pace the series is filmed.

        1. The multiple nights is what i’m referring to as being drawn out. If they kept the show tight like the US does, I’d happily watch it, hence I agree with victweety that once a week is more than enough air-time for this show.

  5. Interesting David. A Wednesday start date. Looks like 10 are shaking up their schedule. Perhaps Bachelor will be Sundays?? Smart move if Survivor is Wed & Thu. Opportunity for a wider audience not going up against The Block on reveal nights! Will see what happens…
