In April the Discovery channel will take cameras into a previously unexplored Egyptian tomb and open a sealed Egyptian sarcophagus for the very first time, Live on air.
Australian viewers will be able to view Expedition Unknown: Egypt Live same time as the US on Monday 8 April.
This 2-hour Live broadcast from Egypt, is hosted by adventurer Josh Gates, joined by Egyptologists.
Expedition Unknown: Egypt Live will explore a 3,000-year-old tomb and underground network of tunnels and passages, uncovering ancient artefacts. Josh will be joined by a team of top experts including world-renowned Egyptologist Ramy Romany, who has dedicated his entire career to uncovering rare artefacts using the latest technology, Egyptologist Dr Zahi Hawass and Mostafa Waziri, the secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt. TV personality Chris Jacobs completes the all-star lineup.
Viewers will have the rare opportunity to see the inner chambers of an excavation site, where archaeologists recently uncovered a network of vertical shafts leading to an underground network of tunnels and tombs with 40 mummies believed to be part of the noble elite. The massive underground complex of chambers is a treasure trove of antiquities – all laying undisturbed for thousands of years. But there are several chambers yet to be explored – and many more discoveries to be revealed, including a mysterious limestone sarcophagus found buried deep within the complex. The identity of the mummy inside has been a mystery for 3,000 years… possibly until now.
Updated: Live Monday 8 April at 10:00am AEST on Discovery (60 min. replay Tuesday 9 April at 9:30pm).

I’m so excited! Will this be aired on any of the free-to-air channels or only on discovery?
Only Discovery. Whether it surfaces at another time I can’t say, but would be unlikely given it is all about the Live.
