Netflix has released first photos for Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City, the revived US melodrama, first seen in 1993 and later in 1998 & 2001.

Laura Linney, Olympia Dukakis, Paul Gross and Barbara Garrick all reprise their roles. Aussie Murray Bartlett replaces Marcus D’Amico as ‘Mouse.’

It is expected to screen mid-2019.

About Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City: Inspired by the books of Armistead Maupin, Netflix Original Limited Series Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City begins a new chapter in the beloved story. Mary Ann (Laura Linney) returns to present-day San Francisco and is reunited with her daughter Shawna (Ellen Page) and ex-husband Brian (Paul Gross), twenty years after leaving them behind to pursue her career. Fleeing the midlife crisis that her picture-perfect Connecticut life created, Mary Ann is quickly drawn back into the orbit of Anna Madrigal (Olympia Dukakis), her chosen family and a new generation of queer young residents living at 28 Barbary Lane. Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City is a Working Title Television and NBCUniversal International studios production for Netflix. Lauren Morelli serves as Showrunner and Executive Producer, alongside Executive Producer/Director Alan Poul, and Executive Producers Armistead Maupin and Laura Linney. Working Title’s Andrew Stearn, Liza Chasin, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner executive produce.

  1. That’s fabulous news!!! Can’t wait to see it. Hadn’t heard a thing about a new series so this is a lovely surprise.
    I really hope they replay the original series as a refresher before the new one begins. I’d so love to go back down memory (Barbary) Lane 🙂

  2. They got the original Brian back! Looking forward to this also – the original show (and the subsequent discovery of the books) was a revelation for me when I was younger, the early books in particular full of outrageous coincidences but seriously addictive. Armistead remains one of my favourite authors – must get round to reading his ‘Logical Family’ memoir.
