Over the weekend as part of the Disney announcements was a release for the trailer of the live action Lady & the Tramp film.

In Disney+’s “Lady and the Tramp,” a timeless re-telling of the 1955 animated classic, a pampered house dog and a tough but lovable stray embark on an unexpected adventure and, despite their differences, grow closer and come to understand the value of home.

  1. Considering the success of their previous remakes it is a little surprising this one won’t have a theatrical release. Though I suppose it is a lesser known of the Disney cartoons. Perhaps they feel the brand recognition isn’t strong enough?

  2. I’m shocked that this is a streaming exclusive as opposed to being released theatrically. Had this been a short, I can understand, but a full length big-budget CGI-heavy film as a streaming exclusive?! Absolute madness. Times are changing faster than I had imagined.

I don’t understand how this can possibly be economically feasible without some kind of monetised release (I’m confident that it will be released on Blu-ray and other formats at some point). I’m sure the subscriber monies will more than cover the cost, but, wow. I would not have expected anything with these production values to be streaming fodder. And I can’t imagine it being incentive enough to coax a lot of subscribers either, however, exclusives like these can eventually make the difference in dominating the streaming market if more original content of this calibre are produced.
