SBS on Demand: The Twelve, Hierro.

Belgian and Spanish crime dramas begin this week at SBS on Demand.

Belgian crime drama The Twelve begins Wednesday, 13 November on SBS On Demand (yep, there’s 14 in the pic!).

All ten episodes available to stream. In Flemish with English subtitles.

Twelve ordinary people are called for jury duty for a murder case as traumatising as it is controversial – a respected principal, Fri Palmers (Maaike Cafmeyer), stands accused of two murders, one of whom is her own child.

Gradually, as the trial gains momentum, it is not only Fri’s fate that hangs in the balance, but also the lives of the jury members that are shaken to the core. Each jury member reacts based on his or her own personal scars and life experience. It is up to them to decide on the guilt or the innocence of this broken woman on trial.

Meanwhile Spanish crime drama Hierro begins on Friday, 15 November.

All eight episodes available to stream. In Spanish with English subtitles.

A corpse with signs of a brutal murder is hauled out of the sea off the coast of the volcanic island, Hierro. Diaz (Darío Grandinetti), a local entrepreneur with a shady past, is arrested as the main suspect.

Candela (Candela Peña), a forceful, temperamental judge, sanctioned and banished to Hierro, makes her first controversial decision – to release Diaz on bail. This very unpopular choice triggers the islanders’ mistrust. Candela strongly believes she must do her duty and follow the law above all else, even if it conflicts with her own instincts.

Meanwhile, Diaz is out to get the culprit, prove his innocence, and find out who has set him up, no matter what it takes. Diametrically opposed but determined to uncover the truth, both sides set out on an emotional and physical journey to hell.
