The BBC has confirmed UK legends Stephen Fry and Sir Lenny Henry will both appear in the series opener of Doctor Who.
Stephen Fry said: “Short of being picked for a British space exploration programme and I readily concede that I’m past the age where I’d be considered (if I was ever the right age for such a posting) – then being in an episode of Doctor Who will certainly do as a very sweet second-place excitement.”
Sir Lenny Henry said: “It was absolutely brilliant to be welcomed into the fantastical world of Doctor Who. The nearest I have been to the TARDIS was when I played the Caribbean Doctor in the Lenny Henry Show, so as a life-long (hiding behind the sofa type) Doctor Who fan this is a very special moment for me.”
Chris Chibnall, Showrunner, added: “Doctor Who is coming back with a bang – with two great British icons in major roles. One of the great joys of Doctor Who is getting to work with actors from your wish list. Stephen and Lenny are two of my absolute favourite actors – and to be able to bring them into Doctor Who, in one of our biggest ever stories to kick off the new series, is an absolute thrill.”
Jodie Whittaker reprises her role as the Thirteenth Doctor, screening in early 2020.

I’m gonna put last year down to “regeneration season syndrome”.
The real question is, what has happened to the Tennant era episode penned by Stephen Fry that was hastily replaced?
The last series was excruciatingly bad, probably the worst in its history. I doubt a couple of well known names will have any fans too excited.
They’re doing a lot more than casting a couple of well known names. Look for the return of old adversaries, a greater connection between episodes and possibly a huge revelation about the Doctor’s past.
According to Jodie Whittaker’s official Facebook page, the first episode will be shown on New Year’s day, and the next episode (both episodes are a two parter) will be shown Saturday 4th January. There apparently will be some special event on 23rd November (the anniversary of the first telecast).
The “special event” on Nov 23 will be a trailer and an in-depth preview of the new series.
From everything I’ve been reading, it looks like Chibnall and co are desperately trying to fix all the mistakes they made in the previous series.
