ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on 9GEM

Australia v India live at the MCG this Sunday.

9GEM screens Live coverage of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup from the MCG on Sunday, with a performance by Katy Perry.

James Bracey is host with analysis from former Australian star Julia Price, and former captain Mark Taylor.

Commentators include Mel Jones, Michael Clarke, Lisa Sthalekar, Nasser Hussain and Isa Guha.

Despite key injuries, tight finishes and threatening weather, Australia has overcome incredible odds to meet arch-rivals India in a must-see spectacle in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Final, Live this Sunday, March 8th from 5:30pm AEDT on 9GEM and 9Now, and available in HD on 9GEM HD (channel 95).

The Final for this year’s tournament appropriately falls on International Women’s Day, where an attempt will be underway at the iconic MCG to break the record for the highest attendance at a women’s sporting event – an endeavor made all the more possible with International megastar Katy Perry providing the entertainment.

With the hopes and expectations of the nation upon their shoulders, the no.1 ranked women’s T20 side in the world got the job done last night after a nail-biting semi-final win over South Africa. Injured star Ellyse Perry looked on as courageous captain Meg Lanning led by example with the bat scoring an unbeaten 49, while star bowler Megan Schutt dominated with the ball to hand the home side a memorable victory.

They will face India in the final, who earlier in the evening advanced over the lower-ranked England side after torrential rain prevented play at the SCG. The same fate almost befell the Aussies before a miraculous halt in the downpour allowed a limited-overs contest to take place.

The Aussies will be searching for a measure of revenge, with their lone loss in the tournament being at the hands of the Indians in the opening game.

5:30pm Sunday on 9GEM.

  1. A lot of people complaining about the gem gactor, but to be fair…

Gem is both SD and HD, just like 9
Last years men’s ashes were all on Gem.
Australia only made the finals 3 days ago.

Viewers have easily found 9Gem in the past in big numbers. Watch the ratings tomorrow.

  2. Don’t know why people are complaining. It’s being broadcast live and in HD on 9Gem. Everybody receives the 9Gem signal. Whether it’s on 9 or 9Gem does not matter. Get over it folks.

  3. Look we have to ask if it was the mens final would that be on GEM? No it would not.

I get that MAFS is a huge ratings winner for 9 but surely for 1 night they could not show it. They could show the cricket on 9 then go to the news at 6 which could be slashed by 1/2 an hour or go the full hour, have the cricket on gem then put it back on 9.

  4. I honestly couldn’t believe why 9 decided to air the Big Final on 9GEM. Instead, 9 decided to air MAFS on the primary channel instead of the cricket. Sunday is INternational Women’s Day and is a significant day in sports. ICC are predicting a crowd of over 70k at the MCG tomorrow, which would be the highest crowd for a women’s sporting event in AUstralia.

  5. Whilst this is a big event one has to remember the 6PM hit off time ,that’s the news so they’re not going to change that and also at the start of the ratings week they want their big drawcard.
I’ll throw a figure of 350K for the final.

  6. Wow, that’s a bit of a slap in the face being international women’s day. Clearly Nine doesn’t care about women’s sports. If it was the men’s final, would it be on gem, I think not.
