Amazon adds Prime Video Store

Customers, including non-subscribers, will be able to rent or buy new release and recent movies.

Amazon Prime Video has announced the launch of Prime Video Store in Australia.

Customers will be able to rent or buy new release and recent movies, and do not need to be subscribers. New release rentals appear to be $5.99.

“We’ve seen how much our customers enjoy the large selection of new release movies available to rent or buy on the Prime Video Store in the US, UK, Germany and Japan, so we’re delighted to roll this service out in France, Italy, Spain, Canada and Australia today,” said Mike Hopkins, SVP Amazon Prime Video & Amazon Studios. “The Prime Video Store brings all Amazon customers the newest releases and blockbuster movies available to rent or buy from top US and local studios, adding to the great range of entertainment already available through Prime Video with a Prime membership.”

The new launch is an addition to the large selection of popular and exclusive movies and TV shows available to stream on Prime Video at no extra cost to a Prime membership, including Amazon Original series and movies like Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Boys, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Star Trek: Picard, The Aeronauts, and The Test: A New Era for Australia’s Team.

Movies in the Prime Video Store will be available to rent or buy from major US studios, including Disney, Warner Bros., NBCUniversal, Sony, Paramount and Lionsgate, with recent new titles such as Avengers: End Game, Avengers: Infinity War, and Bohemian Rhapsody all available to watch now. Local movie studios, including, Transmission and Madman in Australia, will also be available with local titles like Mystify Michael Hutchence available at launch. All customers can rent or buy titles in the Prime Video Store through primevideo.com and the Prime Video app on Smart TVs, Android mobile devices and game consoles.Prime Video Store joins Prime Video’s selection of great entertainment to watch, including popular movies and TV shows available on Prime Video at no extra cost to a Prime membership, and now rent or buy the newest release movies through Prime Video Store, all available through primevideo.com and the Prime Video app across multiple devices. Customers can browse and view movies via the new ‘Store’ tab on the navigation menu across web, Smart TVs and Android. Previous rent and buy movies will be available to watch in the ‘My Stuff’ tab on iOS.

        1. I don’t know which is why I asked the question. Apple are charging $6.99 for the same movies amazon are charging $5.99 for. I asked who they aren’t competitive with and provided an example of someone they were cheaper than. Would love to know who has a better per movie pricing structure for these new release rentals.

          1. Oh okay, my bad. From the comments I thought Amazon charged same as Apple but apparently not. I don’t rent or buy movies or TV shows/episodes from these platforms so perhaps I shouldn’t comment!

    1. Probably a good idea to check the formats available, like Dolby Vision / Dolby Atmos, if you have an AV setup to enjoy these offerings.
