ACMA action after Fetch TV fail on captioning

Updated: Subscription TV service issued with remedial action after it contravened a licence condition.

Subscription TV service Fetch TV has been found to have contravened its licence condition after failing to correctly report caption requirements.

Media watchdog the Australian Communications and Media Authority found that for the 2018-
19 financial year FetchTV breached the captioning licence condition by not reporting captioning targets on CNBC Asia Pacific, BBC Living, BBC Knowledge and CBeebies.

FetchTV had also breached the captioning licence condition in previous years.

Under the Broadcasting Services Act Subscription Television services must provide captions for the deaf and hearing impaired viewers, with varying targets across movie, entertainment, music, sport and news channels.

Earlier this month ACMA issued a remedial direction that FetchTV must outline to ACMA its processes to meet compliance.

It must also advise what targets it has met every twice a year until March 2022.

Updated: TV Tonight understands the captioning was misreported to ACMA but was screened for audiences on Fetch TV channels.

  1. I’ve had FetchTV for years too. love it. Much prefer it to Foxtel (which other family members have in other parts of the house). I find it much more user friendly and the catch up channels are excellent. It’s also more reliable and not over priced either.

  2. I have had Fetch TV for a few years , it just keeps getting better , better channels , interface , apps , guide , and even more to come , my one stop shop for entertainment !
