ITV, BBC to invest $35m into BritBox for Australia.

Big plans from BBC and ITV for its new streaming platform down under.

UK broadcasters ITV and BBC Studios are to inject more than AU$35m into BritBox’s Australian streaming platform over the next three years.

The SVOD service, which was first launched in the US and Canada in 2017, offers an array of UK programming and last year revealed plans to “significantly expand” its offering with more original drama and live events.

Former Network 10 executive Moira Hogan was appointed as country manager, with Richard Hill, formerly of SBS, as head of launch marketing and PR.

It remains to be seen how content will be shared between Britbox and existing partners ABC and Foxtel, but the roll-out will not impact existing deals.

BritBox, which is operated as a 50/50 joint venture by both UK broadcasters, is on track to launch in Spring.

  1. I’m sure the Brits will be interested to see what will be different about the content provided down under.
Somehow I doubt the presumably updated BritBox will be that much different, the ABC and Foxtel will still get access to most of the better shows even though some of the more recent ITV and BBC titles do take a while to be released, perhaps the new Aussie BritBox could change all that.

  2. I will only subscribe if they have new shows that don’t make it to Australia due to the lazy programmers on Foxtels UKTV just showing endless repeats.

  3. I really hope this comes to the Fetch TV platform as an application, otherwise I just won’t subscribe l couldn’t be bothered with more remotes Chromecast, phones, tablets, fire tv and/or computers
(Hdmi 1 only for me) are fetch an OTT service or not, waited for an age for Amazon prime on fetch… or will it come with Amazon prime as a add on like in the US
I believe the launch date will be 30th September

  4. Most of the shows in the pic have been thrashed-to-death on FTA and Foxtel. 7Two & 9Gem are Brit-on-the-Box weekdays and it could be several years before the screening rights expire, which will give the BBC & ITV ample time to colourize and resize the ancient shows for today’s TV’s.
BritBox will also have a tough job in our marketplace as Acorn TV is already well established here and streaming some of their offerings.
