rage Special: To Melbourne, With Love

ABC opens the music video vault to send Victoria some lovin' during Stage 4 lockdown.

rage has programmed a special To Melbourne, With Love while the city endures Stage 4 lockdown.

ABC notes this was due to screen as part of Melbourne Music Week this November “but we figured our Victorian comrades could use this episode now more than ever.”

The special includes music videos written about Victoria, plus hours of songs written by bands who have at some point called Victoria home.

2020 has been a strange and difficult year. And while we are all grappling with new ways of living, we’re particularly feeling for our mates in Melbourne.

With the whole state of Victoria struggling on with varying levels of restrictions, and Melbourne halfway through their six-week stage 4 lockdown, we wanted to show our support by dedicating a whole show to the Victorian artists who have given us so much throughout the years.

For decades, Melbourne has been home to some of Australia’s biggest musical acts, from Nick Cave to Paul Kelly, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, and Australia’s own pop princess Kylie Minogue. And with countless musicians comes countless songs about life in the south-eastern state: including ‘Melbourne’ by The Whitlams, ‘Four Seasons In One Day’ by Crowded House and ‘Depreston’ by Courtney Barnett…to name just a few. And then, of course, there are the music videos filmed in Victoria, from a horror movie in Luna Park, to hanging out on the St Kilda Esplanade, and pretty much any scene from any music video ever made by The Living End.

Here are a few of the music videos we have in store for you:

East Brunswick All Girls Choir – ‘Essendon 1986’
Archie Roach ft. Paul Kelly – ‘Rally Round The Drum’
Camp Cope – ‘Lost: Season One’
Amyl & The Sniffers – Cup Of Destiny
Crowded House – ‘Four Seasons In One Day’
Paul Kelly & The Coloured Girls – ‘From St Kilda To Kings Cross’

Saturday August 22 from 11am, and later that night from 11:50pm on ABC.

  1. Playlists are now available to view on rage’s website. It’s great this special has been brought forward and those in Melb are being thought of. I’ve got family there I haven’t seen since the start of the year.
