America’s Got Talent judge and creator Simon Cowell has taken to social media to thank well-wishers after surgery on his back following an accident at his home.
Cowell was testing his new electric bike in the courtyard at his house in Malibu when the accident occurred.
“Simon had surgery overnight and is doing okay this morning. It was a five-hour surgery and he has had to have a number of fusions and metal rod put into his back,” a representative said. “He landed on his back when he fell from the bike. The injuries are bad but he’s also been told he was lucky.”
And a massive thank you to all the nurses and doctors. Some of the nicest people I have ever met.
Stay safe everyone

The accident comes just days before Cowell is scheduled to shoot America’s Got Talent‘s first live show, following a months-long production shutdown due to COVID-19. The series resumed production on its current 15th season in late June, relocating from its Hollywood auditorium to an outdoor setup designed to resemble a drive-in movie theatre.
Cowell will now miss at least 2 Live shows as the show continues, airing in Australia on Seven.
