Upfronts 2021: 10 live blog

"There's no place like 10" says network as Amanda Keller steps into Oz.

Live Blog:

10’s 2021 virtual Upfront presentation for advertisers and media is underway.

The network has already announced its 2021 slate earlier this morning, but there will possibly be new detail in the presentation.

Just hit refresh for the latest info!

Narelda Jacobs reads acknowledgement of Country. Great to see.

The Living Room begins a fun showreel on how cray cray 2020 has been before a Wizard of Oz cyclone hits. “COVID, Bushfires, Unemployment, Cats!”

“I have a feeling we’re not in Pyrmont anymore,” says Amanda
Sandra Sully is the good witch…. (this is fun) and Osher is a guard at Oz.
Lion (Miguel), Tinman (Barry), Scarecrow (Chris) watch some of 2020’s highlights.

“You’re at home in Oz” says Osher, cue local versions of I’m a Celebrity, Amazing Race. Loving this approach.

“Over the Rainbow” is sung by Amanda (wow) and Julia Morris as Wicked Witch of the West and lots of celebs in cameos.

Great opening… now onto Beverley McGarvey for the serious stuff  (“succinct and as entertaining as possible”).

“There really is no place like ViacomCBS,” she says.

Hughesy recaps 2020 highlights.

Rod Prosser sales boss talks through the stuff that matters for advertisers, adding that “our audiences are different from the others… younger and more engaged…  70% of our audience are under 50.”

Programmer Daniel Monaghan “we are doubling down on 50 weeks” begins slate highlights with Q1.

“South Africa is so 2020″… he jokes before saying The Amazing Race Australia has become literal.

I get the sense The Masked Singer is Q1 next year. Gogglebox also Q1.

Have You Been Paying Attention? “covid-safe television without anyone noticing the difference”… also early in 2021?

After Easter, MasterChef Australia returns to its roots with ordinary people, extraordinary food. So we are into Q2.

After Masterchef concludes, bedazzlers ready for Making It Australia… Amy Poehler  tells us, “we created this show to celebrate people who make things.”

Pet rescue series The Dog House unites pooches with new owners then The New Inventors with Rob Collins. Cue teaser showreel about ancient stories and a living culture “that gave science to the world.”

Australian Survivor is back  I think we must be in Q3 by now. Jonathan LaPaglia is back… but where? No hints.

The Bachelor “the most eligible Bachelor we have ever seen” & Bachelorette return. “Let’s take a look at The Bachelor nation” says Monaghan as showreel rolls…

Ok we’re onto Peach, BOLD and Shake highlights, noting the success of BOLD in particular, and draw upon ViacomCBS content.

Beverley McGarvey is back to talk commitment to local news at 10 News First. and a refreshed Studio 10, and The Project.

“It’s with great pride that we continue to be home to some of the most experienced newsrooms in the country which is key to delivering news coverage that is never less than compelling.”

Finishing with a plug for Paramount+ for all audiences in 2021 “including Children.”  (Showtime logo makes first appearance).

“Fingers crossed we can look forward to inviting you all back in person for a Live Upfront.”

Cue network showreel… it has Junior MasterChef in it, that’s confusing…

That’s it… not too long at 50 minutes.

  1. I really enjoyed the Upfronts – and it’s strong emphasis on Australia. I thought it was a classy, slick presentation with a clear identity and strong focus on what’s important to them. Well done 10!

    1. got a feeling channel nine has grab the rights to the idol brand, as they are showing the american idol. In return may have a rights to produce a local version. Guy will be a great host or judge, if he’s on a contract with nine?

  2. Some great shows in there…really hoping that I’m A Celebrity! still beginning on Jan 3 will mean it will be live, still hoping for DWTS & My Life Is Murder to return, loved the Wizard of Oz opening!

    1. Feud had a good run. Some things have to end. The other shows would’ve been axed regardless who hosted them, they were terrible.
They need to find hosts to fit a good show. I think Sunday Night Takeaway could’ve done better with different hosts and/or different night/timeslot

      1. Agreed with you regarding the Takeaway, dr chris & julie were the wrong hosts, needed to be eg… andy & hamish. or they free now? move to a friday or saturday night

  3. I wonder if the lack of Dancing with the Stars was due to Covid, being no audience and dealing with social distancing, or because they were not happy with the ratings this year. Pleased to see Amazing Race will be back. It would be great if they obtained the broadcast rights for the US version.
