Autumn Racing Carnivals on Seven

Bruce McAvaney will again lead Seven commentary team for Sydney & Melbourne racing carnivals.

Over the next nine Saturdays, Seven network will Live broadcast racing from the Sydney and Melbourne Autumn Carnivals.

Legendary Bruce McAvaney will again lead the commentary team, with Hamish McLachlan, Katelyn Mallyon, Henry Dwyer, Jason Richardson and Sky Racing’s Lizzie Jelfs.

Coverage begins with the $1.5 million Blue Diamond Stake this Saturday, including three Group 1 races at Caulfield and the coveted Silver Slipper Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.

Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin, said: “This autumn, Seven will bring fans a spectacular feast of thoroughbred racing from Sydney and Melbourne, with the live and free coverage once again fronted by thoroughbred racing’s best commentary team led by the incomparable Bruce McAvaney.

“Across the next nine Saturdays, there’s no other place racing fans will want to be.”

Highlights include:

• The $5 million All-Star Mile – the world’s richest 1600m race – at Moonee Valley on 13 March
• The $3.5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m), the world’s richest race for two- year-olds and one of five Group 1 races at Rosehill Gardens on 20 March
• The Championships, which features eight Group 1 races across two action-packed Saturdays at Randwick on 3 and 10 April

In the Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m), Enthaar will start favourite after her dominant win in last month’s Chairman’s Stakes at Caulfield. But the unbeaten filly from the Ciaron Maher- David Eustace stable will face stiff opposition from Godolphin’s three runners – Ingratiating, Arcaded and the heavily backed Anamoe – along with the Grahame Begg-trained Dosh.

The two-year-olds will also take centre stage in the Silver Slipper Stakes (Group 2, 1100m) at Rosehill.

In what is shaping up as a wide-open contest, John Sargent-trained filly Four Moves Ahead will be vying for a Golden Slipper spot, but Godolphin stablemates Paulele and Zethus, and impressive Freedman Brothers colt Tiger of Malay, will be out to spoil her plans.

Saturday’s other highlights include Group 1 features the Futurity Stakes (1400m) and Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield, and the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) and Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill.

  1. And one of the main races of the day in Melbourne, the Gp 1 Oakleigh Plate is due to be run at 4.55pm. What odds there is a channel change to their glorious SD multi channel to view it. If they want to show the event, show it. The 5pm News bulletin, which is repeated an hour later, and repeats of repeats of Border security are not a necessity…
