Original American Idol judge Paula Abdul has returned to the US talent show after judge Luke Bryan tested positive for Covid-19.
“I’m sad to say I won’t be a part of tonight’s first live @americanidol show,” he wrote on social media. “I tested positive for Covid but I’m doing well and look forward to being back at it soon.”
The episode (which has just gone to air stateside) marks the first Live show for the current 19th season, with Abdul -who featured across the first 9 seasons. She joined judges Katy Perry & Lionel Richie. Audience members were masked, tested and seated in pods with their immediate households.
American Idol isn’t screening in Australia at present, last airing on Nine network in 2020.

I caught some of the show and loved seeing Paula back, she is an absolute sweetheart.
Having met and chatted a few times, she was nothing but genuine to me.
Although they’re obviously being tested that first photo shows a complete disregard for social distancing. The performance in the clip was distinctly average too.
I can’t believe that this dumb show is still being made
Tell us how you really feel mike lol
