Actors back Australian Made Week for local stories

Rodger Corser, Leah Purcell, Bryan Brown get behind a push for genuine Aussie movies & TV and the companies behind them.

Australian actors including Bryan Brown, Leah Purcell, Rodger Corser, Aaron Fa’aoso & Matt Day have backed the first ever Australian Made Week, running until 30 May.

Australia Made Week encourages consumers to actively choose genuine Aussie products, in movies, TV shows and other screen content, and to celebrate and support the local businesses and communities behind them.

The campaign is part of a wider push for streaming services to invest 20% of revenue into Australian production, where they top 500,000 subscribers.

“This week we are encouraging audiences to consider the flow-on effects of their purchasing decisions,” said Screen Producers Australia CEO Matthew Deaner. “When you choose to view local Australian content, you not only get to enjoy authentic high quality stories underpinned by Aussie ingenuity, but you also create jobs and generate economic activity.

“If every household spent an extra $10 a week on Australian Made products, we could generate an additional $5 billion for our economy, and create 11,000 new jobs,” Deaner continued.

SPA has also created a campaign video highlighting iconic Australian cinematic moments from recent years which will run across cinema screens nationwide from today. Thanks to Independent Cinemas Australia for their support of the campaign.

Production businesses looking to get involved are encouraged to share Australian Made Week assets across their social networks with the hashtags #AustralianMade #AustralianMadeWeek. In addition, you can share your unique Australian Made story with audiences by uploading a video, social media or blog post about the history and origins of your Aussie brand and content.
