Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries launch

Stars & producers hit the red carpet for Acorn TV, joined by author Kerry Greenwood.

Cast members of Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries attended its premiere screening last night at the art deco Sun Theatre in Yarraville.

In attendance were stars Geraldine Hakewill and Joel Jackson plus Catherine McClements, Greg Stone, Toby Truslove, Louisa Mignone and Michala Banas, joined by Every Cloud producers Fiona Eagger and Deb Cox, and even author Kerry Greenwood (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries). There were even fans in attendance from interstate.

This season debuts on Acorn TV as its first Australian production.

Seasoned performer Catherine McClements spoke to the increase in local productions and striking a balance between the art and the work.

“There’s Culture and our attempt to help our country look at its history, (to) understand itself. And then there’s the Business. We’re all trying to make a living, bringing up kids, buy houses, go out. So the two have to exist side by side and with the influx of the American products, it’s very good for the business. But it’s not so good for the culture. So in a way, what’s happening with Ms. Fisher is it’s incredibly good for culture. It’s enjoyable, it’s looking at us and what we were like. It’s almost like revisionist history, looking at who we were, what we could be,” she said.

“We’re all working on American shows, on some English and Australian shows, and that’s true of the crews as well. Working on the Australian shows is the most enjoyable. It sort of feeds the the soul and it’s why we sort of got into it.

“But at the same time, my son is 15 and he eats a lot!”

Monday June 7 on Acorn TV.
