New 7 year deal with broadcasting service, recently acquired by Telstra.

SBS has renewed its playout contract with MediaCloud, which was recently acquired by Telstra Broadcast Services.

MediaCloud was formerly owned by Deluxe.

As part of the acquisition, SBS renewed its playout contract for MediaCloud services for seven years. All SBS titles will be assembled and played out via the TBS-owned suite of software-defined and cloud-based capabilities.

Darren Farnham, SBS Acting Chief Technology Officer said, “We’re pleased to have extended our agreement for MediaCloud services with the backing of Telstra, and to continue delivering SBS’s unique content to audiences on their device of choice.”

Head of Telstra Broadcast Services Andreas Eriksson said, “The global media industry is expanding to cloud-enabled and software-defined capabilities. Adding these leading new capabilities alongside TBS’s existing global fibre and satellite networks sets us up to meet the evolving needs of the broadcast market as well as expand our value proposition to our global client base by providing a world-class broadcast operations in London.

“The new capabilities will help broadcasters deploy new services and channels to respond to special events, programming opportunities and new markets in these changing times.”

  1. SBS has been very lucky … by all accounts, MediaCloud was within a couple of weeks of disappearing leaving SBS with no playout facility … following on from 9’s disastrous problems, one can only hope that broadcast companies are taking note of where this kind of outsourcing of the key core business – broadcasting – is taking them …

    1. Have to agree. Off-site cloud data centre very risky, whereas on-site data centre playout more secure and robust. Some (very few) broadcasters are at last realising that taking back playout in-house with on-site data centre playout is more secure and importantly returns full control whilst still being very cost effective, including no longer wasting legal fees (tons of cash) on SLA disputes and enforcement.
