Foxtel partners with Sky Glass 4K streaming TV

New range of wifi television sets comes with "No dish, no box, no fuss," in 2023.

The Foxtel Group today confirmed it will be the first global syndication partner for Sky Glass, a next-generation 4K UHD television set that offers “No dish, no box, no fuss” with all of the streaming content in one place, and cinema-quality sound.

Sky Glass, launched by Sky in London yesterday, is expected to be available in Australia in late 2023.

Foxtel Group Chief Executive Patrick Delany said: “Sky Glass will add another dimension to our future as we continue to invest in innovation and reposition Foxtel to be Australia’s premium aggregator of streamed entertainment.

“We are incredibly pleased to be the first syndication partner for Sky Glass. It allows us to join a global product and technology roadmap created by Sky and Comcast, offering customers a world-class entertainment experience and devices, powered by Comcast’s global technology platform.

“Australian households expected to have an average of almost four entertainment streaming subscriptions by 2025. Sky Glass will provide customers with a world-class user interface making life simple by seamlessly aggregating content from multiple providers all in one place, together with beautifully designed devices, including the Glass TV with premium quality 4K UHD picture and 360o Dolby Atmos sound.

“This solution will genuinely provide everything in one place for customers, along with even greater simplicity with a single premium device, easy buying, and a plug and play experience.”

Sky Group Chief Executive Officer Dana Strong said: “We are pleased to announce Foxtel, Australia’s leading subscription TV company, as our first Sky Glass syndication partner.”

  1. interesting sales ploy by Foxtel to follow Sky with this ‘all in one TV package’ scheme. For those who may be interested the UK’s Sky Glass is manufactured by TP Vision which purchased 70% of Philips in 2011, it manufactures panels in both China and Europe, so apart from the Sky design and architecture Sky Glass is technically a Philips TV. In the UK Sky Glass comes in 5 colours and 3 sizes. If you want to purchase one prices start at $1,210.00 AUD. If these TV’s are available to buy without a Foxtel contract it may be an interesting purchase for those wanting a budget Dolby Atmos set-up. I have yet to verify but the OLED’s may be an IPS panel, so what’s known as Panel lottery could be an issue if you deal with Foxtel’s technical department, I expect their customer service may find a few challenges ahead if there’s no QC. It is available to buy in the UK from October 18th.

  2. Interesting approach -Sky only seem to be selling it as a “subscription” device, added on to to your Sky sub – UKP17 per month over four years for the 55″ model, (at which point you own it outright). That’s AU$1,525 at current rates.

Reminds me of the “Radio Rentals” TV shops, full of proper CRT TVs available for “only an affordable sum every week”!
