Nine will screen the City of Melbourne’s 2021 Melbourne Awards this Saturday afternoon.
Hosted by Peter Hitchener, the 9News Special: Melbourne Awards 2021 will celebrate whose who have gone above and beyond in the extremely challenging year of 2021.
“In a year of COVID chaos, it is fantastic that we can share the stories of those Melburnians who are dedicated to making our city a better place, and to celebrate their achievements,” Hitchener said.
Lord Mayor Sally Capp said: “We are thrilled to recognise and celebrate the inspirational people who are making invaluable contributions to our city. It’s the people that make our city the wonderful place it is, and the Melbourne Awards finalists are a testament to our passionate and innovative community.”
This year there are 29 exceptional finalists across eight categories – Arts and Events, Aboriginal Melbourne – Kommargee Ketherba, Community, Hospitality, Sustainability, Urban Design, plus two new categories, Knowledge and Innovation and LGBTIQ+.
This year’s honours will also feature the prestigious Melburnian of the Year Award, whose previous recipients include leading medical researcher Professor Doug Hilton AO, and radiation oncologist and tobacco-free lobbyist, Dr Bronwyn King AO.
