US comedy Pen15 has confirmed it is not proceeding to a third season.

Part 2 of Season 2, which is set to screen on Stan from Saturday, will wrap the series.

Pen15 is an R-rated “traumedy” set in middle school as it really happened in the year 2000. Anna Konkle and Maya Erskine play versions of themselves as thirteen year old outcasts, surrounded by actual thirteen year olds. In this world, seventh grade never ends and the pains of growing up are inevitable.

The Hollywood Reporter notes the decision to end the series was made by Erskine and Konkle. Sources note the duo were ready to take a break from the series that, in total, they’d been working on for nearly a decade.
US platform Hulu still hopes to do additional seasons and is leaving the door open should Erskine and Konkle opt to someday revisit.
