UK documentary  The Missing Children on ABC looks at an international scandal of 796 children who died in the care of nuns.

In a small town in the West of Ireland, a local historian uncovers the death certificates of 796 children who died in a mother and baby home that incarcerated unwed mothers. When she can’t find where they are buried, she begins to suspect they could be in a sewage tank in the grounds of the former home run by the Bon Secours nuns.

The story becomes an international scandal, forcing the Irish Government to order a partial excavation of the site. Forensic archaeologists find “significant quantities” of juvenile remains but without a full excavation many questions are left unanswered. Why did so many children die in the care of nuns who were trained nurses? Are all the babies in the sewage tank? Or could some death records have been falsified and children illegally adopted to America?

9:30pm tonight on ABC.

      1. While you are correct in that there is 2 productions of this show: 3x45min & 1x90min:

only the 90 min version is listed in the ABC online TV guide.

Also, as far as I can tell even ITV the commissioning network has only broadcast the 1x90min edition back in Nov 2021:

        Cheers…

          1. I didn’t know that. I only ever saw “The Missing Children” listed as single 90 min episode in their online guide.

Perhaps the ABC decided to return “China Tonight” 2 weeks early, which starts/returns next Monday night at 9:35pm after Media Watch.

In any event, the trailer available to watch at the abacusmediarights.com link looks interesting, I would have preferred to watch the 135 min edition rather than the 90 min cut down edition.
