British actor Jack Smethurst, best known for Love Thy Neighbour, has died.

British actor Jack Smethurst, best known for Love Thy Neighbour, has died aged 89.
He died peacefully at home while surrounded by his loved ones, his family confirmed.
Son Adam posted on Twitter, “Today we said farewell to our dear Dad. He was much loved and brought joy to many. Our entire family give thanks to a long and fruitful life. Jack Smethurst 1932 – 2022.”
Smethurst played bigoted factory worker Eddie Booth in Love Thy Neighbour from 1972 – 1976. The show was criticised at the time due to its handling of issues around race.
His other credits included Man About the House, Coronation Street,The Bill, Heartbeat, Last of the Summer Wine, Doctors, Casualty, Keeping Up Appearances.

I loved Love thy Neighbour…it was of it’s time and showed how dumb racism was but did it with humour and made the black guy get one up over the white guy (Eddie)
They also had an Australian series where he moved to Aus
