The ABC is in discussions with both the Liberal and Labor parties to host a debate during the campaign between Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese.
“The proposed debate will be broadcast live across multiple ABC platforms to provide all Australians with an opportunity to hear both leaders express their views on the issues and policies that matter to voters. It will be hosted by experienced political journalist and presenter of ABC Insiders and Q+A David Speers,” ABC said in a statement.
“The ABC is encouraged by the discussions so far and looks forward to sharing details of the debate when all parties are in agreement.”
ABC has also reported Anthony Albanese will be forced to isolate at home for the next week of the election campaign after testing positive to COVID-19.
In a statement, Mr Albanese said he returned a positive result during a routine PCR test ahead of his trip to Western Australia.
He will now isolate at home in Sydney for the next seven days.

He would ruin it talking over them and not letting them finishing a sentence no doubt!
Agree. That may be why Labor agreed to go on Sky News in the first instance. Kieran Gilbert is gentler proposition.
Well it will be good if this eventuates rather than only being stuck with the one on Foxtel.
