Chernobyl: The New Evidence, a two part doco special, screens on SBS this Sunday night.

On April 26, 1986 Reactor 4 of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant exploded, releasing clouds of radioactive fallout into the atmosphere. With access to hundreds of declassified KGB documents, Chernobyl: The New Evidence reveals the serious concerns of the KGB, the sacrifices the Soviet leadership were willing to make to keep the story quiet and the bravery that saved the world from an even more deadly disaster.

Episode One: Situation Critical
With access to hundreds of newly declassified files from the KGB, this episode explores the catalogue of errors in the build-up to Chernobyl’s devastating explosion.

Episode Two: Fallout
Using previously classified KGB documents, this episode explores how far Soviet leaders were willing to go to cover up the Chernobyl disaster.
