The Voice wins new reality battle

There were strategic programming moves aplenty, but in the end Seven emerged victorious.

There were strategic programming moves all around the schedule, but in the end, The Voice emerged victorious in a new reality TV battle.

Seven held back Home & Away last night in order to launch The Voice at 7pm after AFL and Seven News.

That helped The Voice launch to 843,000 metro viewers.

It was ahead of Lego Masters -from 7:30pm- at 672,000 viewers.

10 also employed a brash programming move by roadblocking MasterChef Australia, also at 7:30pm, across 10 Peach and 10 BOLD, which under OzTAM simulcast rules enables them to add all three numbers together. It was a change so late that it wasn’t even across all EPGs, including on 10 Play.

However 10 has not broken out the three separate numbers and the move possibly impacted their share for the night by offering less choice.

Seven was a clear winner at a 34% share for Monday then Nine 28.7%, 10 17.2%, ABC 12.7% and SBS 7.5%.

While The Voice led in 16-39 demos, Lego Masters led in 18-49 and 25-54 viewers.

Some normality is restored tonight when all three screen in a standard 7:30 slot, on a single channel, but OzTAM survey doesn’t resume until Sunday.

  1. Ten doesn’t really deserve to get winning ratings with a stunt like that, and it went for almost 2 hours, waaayyy too long. Still i guess hardcore MC fans will be loving it, i wonder how many of the ratings are from fans as opposed to viewers who drop in & out depending on what else is on.

  2. I dont get why 10 did that. Why watch it on Bold if l have it on Ten?? I mean maybe l wanted to watch NCIS instead so now l channel surf and settle for 7Flix as an example. Us viewers aren’t dumb. To me all channels are on the same platform.

  3. Will be interesting to see how the numbers normalise now that the opening night shenanigans have passed, as well as what rhe total TV figures will be. LEGO Masters will surely perform very well on BVOD.
