Friday Flashback: Australia’s Brainiest Housemate

In 2006 Sandra Sully tested Big Brother housemates on general knowledge.

Speaking of Brain Eisteddfods….

Back in 2006, Sandra Sully hosted Australia’s Brainiest Housemate, a special episode of Australia’s Brainiest Kid with Big Brother housemates.

David Graham, who was a star at Geography, was Winner, followed by Dino Delic and Jamie Brooksby. Also appearing were Claire Madden, Gaelan Walker, Katie Hastings, Camilla Severi, Anna Lind-Hansen and Michael McCoy.

Australia’s Brainiest Kid ran in 2004 on Seven with host Anna Coren, before Sully took over as host on 10 in 2005 for two seasons and over a dozen specials.

  1. Jeez. I *completely* forgot about this. I remembered Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader, but I mistakenly thought that was hosted by Sandra Sully for all these years. Having just looked it up and learning that Rove hosted Fifth Grader, I can see why I had forgotten as I can’t stand him and usually switch off anything that he’s on. I also remember being really pissed when he fake-sobbed during the Rove Live promo during the closing credits for the 3rd season finale of The O.C. (which featured a death), completely destroying the mood, and further souring my opinion of him.

But speaking of Big Brother, I fondly remember an episode of The Weakest Link (RIP Cornelia Frances) featuring first season Big Brother housemates, and everybody (except Jemma) voted Ben off after the first round as he had already won the $250,000 prize. It’s a shame that Nine’s reboot was so terrible.

  2. I like the Friday Flashback articles. Sandra Sully is amazing! Is she in Logie’s Hall of Fame? Also great were celeb specials of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader and Weakest Link with Cornelia Frances. Can’t wait for Shaun’s game show on Wednesday! The spelling of Geogrpahy looks wrong.
