Axed: Resident Evil

Horror series is done and dusted less than two months after its launch.

Horror series Resident Evil has been axed by Netflix after just a single season.

The small screen version starring Lance Reddick only launched in early July.

According to Deadline, Resident Evil debuted with “an OK 72.7m hours viewed for its opening weekend”.

But it did not deliver the big Week 2 bump, raking in 73.3m hours viewed in its second week falling out of the streamers Top 10 performers after only three weeks. It also drew 55% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes but just 27% as an audience score.

The series also featured Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, Paola Nuñez, Ahad Raza Mir, Connor Gosatti and Turlough Convery.

  1. Netflix’s version of Resident Evil did it’s best not to be compared to the Milla Jovovich films and the classic gaming series, The only problem for Netflix was that Resident Evil do have knowledgeable fans who may also have watched the movies as well, so there was always a good chance of this series receiving a critical backlash. Changing creative content to start your own series is now becoming quite common, and as J.J Abrams revision of Star Wars can attest these revisions don’t always go as planned, especially with dedicated fans. I found Resident Evil generally entertaining though the plot tended to go off on a tangent on occasion which for me became very distracting and did not really contribute much to the weak screenplay.

  2. The show was truly terrible, but to say RE fans are toxic is a bit rough. As you rightly said, this wasnt Resident Evil, but yet it carried the title of RE, some characters shared the names of established RE characters, and it was set in the apartment RE universe, but it was so obviously a heartless cash grab using the name only to sell a plane story it wasn’t funny. I think RE fans probably think they deserve a bit more than whatever this mess was.

But if you want toxic fans, you only need to wait a few days to see how Rings of Power goes!
