Friday Flashback: Pretty Petrol
This 1980s pilot was Grundy's first foray into sitcoms, but it never got off the ground.

Sitcoms are notoriously hard to do, especially in Australia where our sketch comedy record is much healthier.
In 1983 a pilot called Pretty Petrol, written and produced by David Cumming was produced by the Grundy Television -their first foray into sitcoms. No doubt heavily influenced by the success of Kingswood Country on Seven, alas Pretty Petrol was never picked up by Network 10.
It starred Victoria Nicolls, Diana Davidson, Lance Curtis, Debbie Newsome and Willy Fennell and was directed by Julian McSwiney.
Car comedy Bingles with Shane Bourne, Russell Gilbert, Tammy MacIntosh & Nick Buffalo would have better luck with 23 episodes across 1992 – 1993.

Let’s not forget popular at the time sitcoms including Acropolis Now..and sadly due to a certain main actor Hey Dad
RIP Julian McSweeny, another loverly director to work with.
Love how these pop up on YouTube, recently watched the 1984 Aust one called Brass Monkey’s, with Graham Blundel and Paul Chubb in, apparently there was a Pilot called Twelve Below with Noel Ferrier in, doesn’t appear to be there (yet).
