Airdate: Ray Warren: Calling Time

Sports special pays tribute to a veteran Nine broadcaster.

Later this month Nine will screen a special Ray Warren: Calling Time as the veteran sports broadcaster wraps Live calling.

Hosted by James Bracey, the special will feature Ian Thorpe, Paul Vautin, Peter Sterling, Phil Gould, Giaan Rooney, Bruce McAvaney, Andrew Johns, Johnathan Thurston, David Gyngell, Billy Birmingham (The 12th Man), Peter V’landys and more.

Nine Director of Sport, Brent Williams, said: “Ray Warren is without doubt one the greatest and most iconic sports broadcasters our country has ever seen – from the young boy calling marbles rolling down a slope to the legend providing the soundtrack to Origin’s most memorable moments, and everything in between. Calling Time is a celebration of Rabs’ incredible career and his remarkable journey to becoming the best ever.”

Nostalgic, funny and irreverent, this special tribute to his life relives the soundtrack to many of the most memorable moments in Australia’s sporting history and dives deeper into the world of the man affectionately known as Rabs.

From the way he prepared in his home office before calling some of the biggest moments in sports history to his upbringing in the regional New South Wales town of Junee, to the chemistry of how the commentary box worked behind the scenes – it’s all there in Ray Warren: Calling Time.

  1. I can’t help but feel Steve Britten was not the right choice for the voice over for this promo. It’s not a State of Origin or Block promo but one for a story of a career that has sentimental emotion. Nine promo dept cut and pasting.

    1. The major problem is his voice. His VO is too OTT and harsh. Most of the 9 promos are too exaggerated and dramatic. It doesn’t make me want to tune into watch shows. Recently, his Vo on Nick Scali furniture promos generally put me off.
The time for a new Nine voiceover guy is more than 10 years overdue. I think we’ve had enough of his VO.
