Golden Globes returning to TV

After a year off screen and calls to overhaul their judging process, the 80th Golden Globes will get a US broadcast.

Just because there wasn’t anywhere near enough awards shows in America* the Golden Globe Awards are returning to television in 2023 after a TV absence.

NBC will broadcast the 80th event in January at its longtime home inside the Beverly Hilton ballroom. Dick Clark Prods. is producing for the Hollywood Foreign Press Assoc.

NBC last week announced that it had struck a new one-year deal “which allows the HFPA and DCP to explore new opportunities for domestic and global distribution across a variety of platforms in the future.”

The Globes were not broadcast in 2022 after demands for industry reforms and broader representation within the HFPA. In July it announced an internal restructure including increasing]”the size and diversity of the available voters for the annual awards”.

No Australian broadcaster has yet been announced.

* Meanwhile the BAFTAs have announced BAFTA Special Awards with presentations throughout the year in the USA, an evolution of its annual Honorary Awards.

  1. So glad. A stupid firestorm around them. It would have been terrible if they hadn’t continued. They have a great history of actually rewarding people that the Oscars and even Emmys ignore
