Jimmy Kimmel renews show through until 23rd season

US late night talk show host stays on air stateside for another three years.

His show may not be on in Australia, but there is always local interest in the movements of US late night talk show hosts….

Jimmy Kimmel has renewed his contract with US network ABC for a further three years, keeping Jimmy Kimmel Live! on air to its 23rd season.

The deal means that he will surpass Jay Leno, who hosted NBC’s The Tonight Show for 22 years — but he trails Conan O’Brien (28 years), Johnny Carson (30 years) and David Letterman (33 years) in late-night.

“After two decades at ABC, I am now looking forward to three years of what they call ‘quiet quitting,’” said Kimmel.

“For 20 years, Jimmy Kimmel has been a huge part of the ABC family and the heartbeat of late-night television,” said Craig Erwich president of ABC Entertainment, Hulu & Disney Branded Television Streaming Originals. “Not only has he entertained our audiences night after night with his sharp comedy, dynamic interviews and irreverent humor, but he has gotten us through some of the most momentous events in our history with optimism and heart. There is no one funnier and more authentic than Jimmy. We are so proud of the incredibly talented team at Jimmy Kimmel Live! and could not be happier to continue our partnership.”

Kimmel will mark the 20th anniversary of the show in January.

  1. I miss Kimmel so much not being on our screens here. I don’t get it. With all the channels on all the platforms you’d think one of them could show Kimmel. You can get highlights from YouTube but it’s not the same.

  2. Gosh I still remember when he left The Man Show for Jimmy Kimmel Live, where have 20 years gone! Looks like Kimmel taking second place from Fallon last year has helped him stay on.
