On TV, a minute’s silence is just 10 seconds…

Today Extra recapped the minute's silence for the Queen, at a fraction of the time needed.

Nine was in a commercial break yesterday when the clock struck 11am AEST, on the National Day of Mourning for Queen Elizabeth II.

While Seven and 10 observed a minute’s silence, and ABC was broadcasting the Australian Memorial from Canberra, Today Extra recapped the moment in a news update.

However, that took all of 10 seconds before it was business as usual.

  1. Please correct me if I am wrong but I was watching the ceremony on ABC and am pretty sure the minutes silence actually started at approx 10.58am? I was very surprised.
