Oops. Memo for Matt Shirvington.

When a network sports presenter forgot to acknowledge the boss....

When you’re officiating an AFL event be sure to acknowledge your own boss.

That was the message for Seven’s Matt Shirvington who was called out by outgoing AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan as he emceed an AFL event in Sydney.

The Herald Sun reports that  after praising his track and field achievements, McLachlan added, “He’s now transitioning into broadcasting and doing a great job of it – some advice, when you are standing up talking about broadcasters, mentioning everyone who works for Foxtel and Kayo and you work for Channel 7 and not mentioning their Chief James Warburton, it seems to be a limiting move.”

“I appreciate that he’s used his last preliminary final speech to stitch me up,” Shirvington responded.

  1. This is over the top. Not everyone can remember everyone, events etc on these occasions. People at awards shows like the Logies, Emmys, Oscars don’t always acknowledge every person they work or encounter. Some people will start to become less confident and become so self conscious they won’t be able to say what they think unless they carry a big list of acknowledgments including apologies with them. Calling out people is obviously the latest trend. We will all be zipped up and buttoned up soon. I’m sure Matt is doing his best. He’s relatively new to this and deserves a break.
